Pop Up Camper Models Are Ideal For Family Fun

Camping is one of the best ways for a family to get back to the basics while having some fun along the way. While some people enjoy tent camping or completely roughing it under the stars, others prefer to have a few creature comforts along for the ride. Here's where a pop up camper can be a real benefit for a family that’s just getting its feet wet in the great outdoors.

If you think of a pop up camper as the middle ground between tent camping and actually forking over the cash for a big, fully appointed RV, you'll be on the right track. These offer some great creature comforts, but generally still give users enough of an outdoorsy feel that they won’t be accused of bringing the Ritz to the woods.

While pop up camper models might vary in features, let's take a look at a few things they have in common. Most pop ups offer:

  • Easy storage and towing: Storage of a pop up camper basically involves just closing the unit back down after use.  If you think of a jack-in-the-box, you'll have an idea of what a pop up is like. When it's closed, it's kind of a big box that can easily be towed behind a car or a truck. When it's opened, a pop up includes a solid floor and roof, but generally has walls made of screened material and tarp.
  • Sleeping quarters: How many a pop up camper will sleep can vary, but generally these are quite useable by families of four to five, sometimes more and sometimes less.
  • Cooking facilities: While most pop up camper models don't offer lavatory facilities, they tend to provide basic cooking ability. This can include a camp stove, and possibly even an oven. There might even be a refrigeration unit on board to make food storage easier.
  • Dining: Most pop up campers come with tables that turn into beds or vice versa, depending on your perspective. This makes playing games, dining and just relaxing a whole lot easier.
  • Electrical/gas connections: One of the advantages of pop up campers over tent camping is the ability to hook up electrical appliances. Most campers come with this ability.
  • Storage: This is another great advantage of a pop up camper. These tend to provide for a fair amount of storage for kitchen items, bedding and camping supplies in general.

While they’re a far cry from staying in a luxury appointed hotel or even an RV, a pop up camper is seen as many as a great way to avoid sleeping on the ground in a tent while still enjoying the great outdoors. While there's a solid roof over head and a floor under the feet, these still let the sights, sounds and smells of the forest in with ease.

For families with outdoors lovers and haters in the mix, a pop up camper can be a great compromise. They can also provide a good way for families to get acclimated to camping without having to totally rough it or spend a fortune along the way.
