Campers Shoes Should Be A Top Priority
Half the fun of camping
is going out and exploring the great outdoors. No matter the season,
the exploration is what makes this type of vacation invigorating.
Unfortunately, many newcomers don't realize the importance of having
smart campers shoes with them for the ride, walk or hike.
Picking out appropriate campers shoes is incredibly important to ensure
that a trip into the woods, up into the mountains or even out in the
desert is enjoyable. A bad pair of shoes can wreck a camping trip
faster than a weekend full of rain with a leaky tent.
Since correct campers shoes are about as vital as having along a good
sleeping bag and food in case the fish aren’t biting, we've put
together a few suggestions. Keep in mind, it might be wise to bring
along more than one pair to handle different circumstances. Don't
forget extra socks, too, as sweaty, wet feet on a long hike can make
the prospect brutal.
To ensure a great trip, consider these things when picking out campers shoes:
Heels/open toed-shoes are out:
While might matter back at home, it doesn’t in the woods. Campers
shoes should not have heels, spikes or anything that might get caught
up on tree roots and other natural obstructions. If hiking, climbing or
just a lot of walking are on tap, leave the heels at home. This advice
also goes for open-toed shoes. These can be dangerous, especially in
wooded areas.
Comfort: A sturdy
pair of hiking boots that happen to also be comfortable are always good
choices in campers shoes. Make sure whatever is chosen is comfortable
enough to make walking and hiking pleasant, but snug enough to provide
some support.
Protection: Since
there’s all kind of obstructions and critters in nature, a good
pair of campers shoes should provide a fair amount of protection from
sharp objects, biting insects and even snakes. Many campers choose
hiking boots for this reason.
Water/weatherproof/resistant:
There's nothing worse than being half way through a five-mile hike and
getting the feet wet. While the extra pair of socks will help, making
sure the feet don't get wet in the first place is the best choice. This
bit of wisdom should be heeded on just about any type of outdoors
excursion where walking and water might combine. Good campers shoes
will provide at least a basic level of protection from the elements.
Light weight: Even
if hiking boots that cover up above the ankles are in order, good
campers shoes should not be too heavy to tote around. The more
lightweight you can go, the better. This just helps keep the level of
fatigue down.
While the above are pretty solid selections for choosing campers shoes,
there are other considerations. For example, those who plan on fishing
might want waders along to assist with keeping not only the feet dry,
but also the legs. Swimmers might want to consider special shoes to
protect their feet from lake or ocean bottom debris. The most important
thing is to consider the activities that will be on tap and pick
campers shoes accordingly.
